Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams to accept only desi cows in donation

Fed up with devotees gifting it unproductive and sick cattle as well as bulls and non-indigenous breeds, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has decided to henceforth accept only indigenous healthy cows which yield a certain amount of milk everyday . TTD has started the SV Gou Samrakrshana Trust in the year 2002 and since then, donations in the form of cows, calves, bulls have been pouring in and the cattle are housed at the SV Gousamrakshanashala in Tirupati.”But in the recent past, some of them are donating unproductive and sick as well as non-indigenous and non-milching cattle to the trust,” said TTD board member Bhanu Prakash Reddy .

As a result, the goshala now has over 2,500 animals and this has caused a serious scarcity of land and water, Reddy said. The TTD will henceforth accept only productive desi breeds like Gir, Shahiwal, Red Sindhi, Punganuru and Ongole breeds.
